Romney Abolishes Gay Youth Commission

Settlement Reached In Gay High School Suit

(New York City) Both sides are declaring victory in a lawsuit that threatened to close New York City's Harvey Milk High School. The suit was filed in 2003, shortly after the school for LGBT students was opened, by a religious group and New York state Conservatives.
The New York Hispanic Clergy Association and by Liberty Counsel, a Florida based legal group that provides lawyers to fight for conservative Christian issues accused the city of violating its own equal rights law and promoting segregation by creating a school solely for LGBT students. Continue

A display acknowledging Boston's gay pride week was removed from a Macy's department store window after an antigay group complained it was offensive, the Associated Press reports. According to a new survey 1,732 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, almost two-thirds of those surveyed said they were verbally harassed because of their sexual orientation. About half reported they were harassed for their gender identity. More than a third of those surveyed suffered anti-gay physical harassment and 25 percent experienced anti-transgender physical harassment, the survey found. Click here for the report

District Judge David Bunning says students in Boyd County Schools have no religious or free-speech right to opt out of a yearly seminar aimed at preventing anti-homosexual harassment. The diversity training for staff members and middle school and high school students is the result of a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of a Gay-Straight Alliance Club that is now permitted to meet on campus.
