Univ.'s homosexuality stance puts pharmacy school at risk

In response to the University of the Cumberlands expulsion of a gay student, a few state legislators called for the Baptist-affiliated school to forfeit $11 million in state funding for its new pharmacy school because the school would only be open to heterosexuals. Meanwhile, some Cumerlands students protested with t-shirts saying "Jesus Loves My Gay Friends." Click here

Homosexual group sues Ky. governor over funding for univ.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (BP)--A homosexual rights group is suing the governor of Kentucky in order to prevent the state from giving $11 million to the Baptist-affiliated University of the Cumberlands after the school expelled a homosexual student. Expelling gay student wasn't Christian

Last week, in a move that many outside the Baptist church have labeled "intolerant," the University of the Cumberlands expelled a student for being gay.

But is intolerant the correct word? It would be much more appropriate to attach some other adjectives, including mean, hurtful, unjust, unfair, lopsided, hasty or unloving. Continue

"FRANKFORT - Questions and fallout from the University of the Cumberlands' decision to expel a gay student landed on the governor's desk yesterday as he began reviewing the state's budget bill, which includes $11 million for the private Southern Baptist college in Williamsburg.

The Kentucky Fairness Alliance yesterday presented Gov. Ernie Fletcher's office with nearly 400 letters from Kentuckians, calling on him to veto sections of the budget that would provide the school with $10 million in public funds for a pharmacy school building and $1 million for a scholarship fund."
